Ted Page Vows to Eat His Shorts on YouTube if His Agency Does Not Win a Solar Energy Account in 2009
Captains of Industry® agency principal launches video on new blog: www.solarshorts.com
BOSTON, MA – March 20, 2009 – Ted Page, one of the founders of Captains of Industry a marketing and filmmaking agency with expertise in viral marketing and renewable energy, has launched a new Blog featuring a video in which he pledges to “eat his shorts” on camera and post the video on YouTube if his company doesn’t land a solar power account this year.
The idea came to Page when he experienced frustration after reading about solar companies who where retrenching due to the economic situation just at the time when the industry was poised to take off. “One day,” says Page, “I blurted out to my staff that I was going to eat my shorts if we didn’t land a solar account. Then I thought, hmm, maybe I should put that on YouTube.” Captains of Industry, which Page helms with his business partner Fred Surr, has renewable energy marketing experience with leading wind energy companies, including Deepwater Wind.
“During the economic downturn, there’s a huge opportunity for a solar company to use these web-based techniques to educate customers about solar energy and become the number one brand nationally. By using web videos, social media and blogging, we’re demonstrating to the solar industry that you can reach an enormous audience without the high expense of traditional advertising,” says Page.
Page has invited solar industry professionals to join in a discussion about ways to kick-start the solar industry in the wake of the financial crisis. He has also requested them to post suggestions for condiments, side dishes or wine to go with his shorts.
“I’m very serious about this pledge,” says Page, “and equally serious about the need for solar energy adoption in this country in order to stop global warming and increase our energy independence. The time for a solar company to get out there and tell its story is now,” says Page.
